L.J. Smith introduces a lot of unusual things in her Vampire Diaries books—and the stone Stefan and Damon’s rings are crafted from, “lapis lazuli,” is one of our favorites. We know that lapis lazuli protects vampires from sunlight, but we wanted to find out where it comes from and figure out why L.J. chose this particular kind of stone.
In our research, we found out that lapis lazuli is a real semi-precious stone that has been mined for over 6,000 years. It’s also fairly rare and often used in jewelry because of its beautiful blue color. We still aren’t exactly sure why L.J. Smith chose lapis lazuli … we think the fact that it’s rare, ancient, and beautiful—kind of like the Salvatore boys themselves—is reason enough.

Most of you probably know Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass: the sexy, spoiled bad boy from the CW’s Gossip Girl. Well, we thought it might be fun to imagine Ed Westwick as a vampire. We don’t think it’s too difficult to picture either. In fact, we thinks he’s a lot like a vamp we already know—Damon.
Attractive face and bod? Check. Bad boy attitude? Check. Deep penetrating eyes? Double check! Sounds pretty bite-worthy if you ask us. Now all we need is someone like Katherine to sink her teeth into him.

What could possibly make us more excited for the second season of TVD than we already are? The CW’s SEXY new promotional poster ads for The Vampire Diaries! Elena is pictured with both Salvatore brothers by her side—as usual. And she’s clearly connected to both Stefan and Damon—which is slightly scandalous but not too surprising.

Earlier this summer, Entertainment Weekly hosted a “Sexy Beast” contest, and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) was in the running. In fact, out of all the “beasts,” Damon made it down to the final two—vs. Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).
The contest, and the fact that Damon was victorious over Edward, is slightly old news, but it got us thinking about what a REAL battle between Damon and Edward would be like. We don’t mean a competition about who’s the sexiest—Damon already won that one. We mean Damon vs. Edward in a battle of sheer strength and power.
