We’ve looked at this quote before, but it stops us in our tracks every time. The quote sounds like it’s describing the attraction between Stefan and Elena. Think again!
In L.J. Smith’s second novel, The Struggle, there is an undeniable attraction that begins between Elena and Damon (unfortunately for him, it’s also unfulfilled). We know Elena is head over heels for Stefan, but even Elena herself admits that Damon’s almost scary good looks have quite an effect on her.
Elena tells herself that it wasn’t just Damon’s “powers” that were affecting her here. So do you think this attraction between Elena and Damon is something Stefan should worry about?

Having read up to and including book 6 the attraction is there but they haven’t done anything about it! Just depends on whether the series is truer to the book than the first series was! I’d recommend the books the story is quite different.

for me there is nothing stefan should be worry about.. as far as i know.. elena’s feelings for both of them is not the same.. for damon we can say that elena’s feelings towards him is just affection.. meaning it will definitely pass.. while for stefan she is IN LOVE and the AFFECTION is there.. so in that case we can see that it is not balance.. yes we are seeing some connection between elena and damon but i think it will be just like that.. damon also knows his limitation and he certainly knows where should he stand even though he have desires for elena.. [MY OPINION BASED ON THE BOOK]

Stephen should be worried. The people who write the show know people are getting tired of the Stephen/Elena love. It never changes. They know people want to see what the Damon/Elena pairing would be like, hence the ending at the season finale. Even if it was Katherine, we were all conviced it was Elena. We wanted it to be her.
