It’s no secret that Damon is The Vampire Diaries’ most notorious evil doing vamp. Murderer. Player. Back stabber. Liar. There are SO many reasons we should hate him. Secretly though … we sometimes want him anyways.
Damon’s good looks are certainly one reason that it can be hard to hate him … but his looks alone aren’t enough to make us like this bad boy. His dark humor and ability to not take things too seriously are also attractive qualities, especially in comparison to Stefan’s often more serious moods.

Yes he´s a bad boy, but…if he givs his word he newer ever goes back on it…witch makes him more relyable than Stefan…and he is absolutley gorgeus (or Ian is)…an other reason is that he doesn´t back of if he wants something he goes right for the price (in this case Elena)

Damon isn’t as bad as he pretends to be. OK, he’s pretty bad, but we’ve all known (and even dated) one or two Damon types in our time. He is like a selfish little child acting out for attention, beit negative attention or not. It’s his coping mechanism. He’s been hurt by Katherine and Stephan, so he lashes out to hurt others. However if you look hard enough you can see that glimmer of hope that he can be redeemed. It’s still there after over 100 years of ill-tempered-ness. Everyone loves the bad-boy (it’s just as sexy as the dark, brooding and self-loathing suffering type) maybe even more-so since that tough boy facade allows him to cut loose and have fun.

He is a challenge if I was elena and i wanted damon, it would be a challenge to get him to show his kind, caring side. With Stefan he is such an easy A, its like there’s no obstacle. Like others said, i like how he is loyal and he protects elena. He is also more fun than stefan. Just Sayin.

His looks, his loyalty to those he loves(like Elena) and his ability to joke during serious times ’cause you have to be able to laugh while your serious. He’s protective, but not OVERprotective. Damon is so charming and since the beginning you can see everything is stefan’s fault he felt in love with Catherine and Stefan ruined even when he promise not to tell to his father. And then Stefan make him stay aliveas a vampire even when he didn’t want it. Damon is just mad and resentful of Stefan for a valid reason but he cares and loves Elena but she’s just so dumb she met Stefan first WHY????? Behind the boulder of negative-ness, Damon actually seems to be a good guy. He is protective of Elena. He would kill for her. What could be added to the list in my opinion is Damon’s reactions. His smiles, his spells of anger, his love to Elena, his feelings toward his “little brother-Stefan”, his irritation with Carolyn, his uncomfortable-ness having Meredith near him, his nice-ness to Bonnie, his indifference to Mett, his feelings for Katharine. As it seems Damon is not a soulless body, indifferent and stone-harted and dead as it shows. So my final answer is: DAMON’S EMOTIONS.

Damon is not bad!
He has some flaws and so does Stefan.
I love Damon because he has an immense ability to love. When people are evil, they cannot love. He is just, loyal and bold with the ones he love. That is, mostly Elena. He cares about Stefan and Bonnie too (not as much as Elena though).
For me, Damon is all about being in love with Elena. Without that he’ll have no good feelings and he becomes a gorgeous monster with no emotions. Being with Elena keeps his touch with humanity. But he’s a human in the books now *Sigh*

Damon isn’t evil and he doesn’t hate everyone. Obviously he tries to make people think that he is and does because then nobody can hurt him. Secretly Damon knows that he has his faults and he does like or even love certain people. The moere people that like him that he likes back the more that he can come to terms with his humanity and he can put down his guard. After Katherine and Stefan hurt him so badly he’s kind of wary to trust or love anymore. Now that there is a new girl that trusts him more than he deserves at this point and his brother is starting to accept him he is having trouble with the emotions he isn’t used to having. i like him because he can change and adapt and eve though he tries not to show it he DOES care for the people in his life, enough to change it to keep them safe.

I love his eyes cuz in the tv show they’re like super blue and dart everywhere and it feels like he’s looking through you. However, in the book they’re just as great because they are so black that elena always tries to see more through them than the outside.

Damon is the type of person who is hidden deep inside himself. The evil that people think possesses him is just a facade, like Raven said. I’d say Stefan is more to blame for everything than Damon is. The reason that he puts all those stone layers around himself is because he feels deeply, and has been stung quite a lot. Damon is a really interesting character. He might seem evil and all, but you definitely cannot deny the fact that he is interesting. There’s something more to him than what he shows(there is still some goodness left in there, after all) and he ALWAYS keep his word.

Damon is loyal and trustworthy. If he makes a promise, he’ll keep it at the cost of his life. He’s caring and defends those he loves. He doesn’t try to hide the truth about what he is. He’s a take-it-or-leave-it sort of dude. He’s also hilarious and carefree! The time of guy you could cry on his shoulder if your neighbour shot your dog, then he’d go to the neighbour, make a dark joke, kill him, and then brighten your day with a flower (Black magic rose, perhaps? ;o). He’s not a wimp or a pussy like Stefan, and he isn’t a mooch-puppy who gets jealous or lonely or worried that you don’t love him because of what he is. He’s there, and he’s perfect. A bit morbid, perhaps, and the owner of a decidedly darker past than most, but we all have our downsides, eh? ;D

Probably the one thing that makes Damon hard to hate is in the book vol. 1: Nightfal is when Elena uses her powers and redeems Damon and you get to see the true and real side of Damon because deep down inside he was just hurt and built up walls but he is really acutally good!

I think Damon’s character is a little misinterpreted in the show. because of what they see. but actually he is so good. I’ve read about his goodness in the Vol IV: Dark Reunion and he saved Stefan so he isn’t actually that bad.. and I Love Him too..

He is a way better person than Stefan. You can see that all the time. Everyone sees Stefan as a prototype of a good guy, which I never understood. Stefan is just a boring and unsecure pathetic wimp who always plays on his sad face and some fake morality talk. Making Elena to choose Stefan instead Damon is just something what proves that she did not deserve everything Damon did for her, as well as she don’t know what real and true love is. I felt like she just used him like Kathrine did. After everything he did for her and all her beloved, she choose Stefan as her true love, and who did all good deads? DAMON DID! Damon is honest with himself, he loves without second thoughts, he is willing to help without thinking of his own life. And at the end he end up as a loser again, alone and without love. So unfair!!!
