Throughout The Awakening and The Struggle, it is pretty remarkable how well Matt is able to stay away from being the jealous ex-BF type around Elena. In fact, he actually goes out of his way at times to help the love of Elena’s life. (Remember how he took Stefan hours away in his junk box car so Stefan could gather vervain for Elena?)
We noticed that in The Fury, Matt finally gets a tad infuriated about doing favors for Elena. Once Matt realizes Elena is truly back, his first question is “So what do you want?” Ouch. That isn’t a very nice way to welcome back your first love and childhood friend!
It can’t be easy to be around a girl you’re in love with without getting a little bitter though, and Matt might have had a right to feel kind of used. Do you think Matt’s reaction was justified or just mean?

I think Matt is justified in his actions. In the book, he is just ditched and then dragged through Elena’s problems. Sure he could just stay out of it, but he has known and cared for Elena his entire life and sometimes letting go is the hardest. He went through a lot, he allowed Elena to use him (drink his blood) to save her life, he gets attacked by mythical creatures and yet he does not complain. There is only so much a person can endure before becoming overwhelmed and snapping. The guy deserves a break!

How would you react if the love of your life broke up with you to chase some other “more handsome” guy and he turned her into a soulless vampire for all eternity and then you had to give away your blood to keep her from dying when she doesn’t even remember your name or even who you are and only thinks of you of food?!?!?!

Matt could have been more polite to Elena however I believe his reasons are justified. Elena broke up with him soon after seeing how handsome Stefan was.

well i can say both.. yeah the hurt is there because of the break up but it doesn’t mean that you have to hurt the person back.. we understand how matt felt when elena broke up w/ her.. he so nice and everything but didn’t elena also felt guilty breaking up w/ him? i think what elena had done was just fine on your own opinion would you rather keep the person you have right now even though you know you have feelings on the new one? isn’t it unfair to the person you have right now?? im actually against on matt’s choice of words.. his intention[to let elena knows his hurt ] is fine but the choice of words is not.. i mean you can still be a gentleman even though your hurt right?? but based on what i have understood he felt guilty about it… [JUST SHARING OPINION BASED ON THE BOOK] *peace*

It’s justified because I would get a little bitter when the girl you loves breaks up with you and goes after a extremely handsome guy and then because of him and his brother she turns into a vampire and never will be what she once was!!!!!!!!
