Vampires: Damned or Deliverable?

“I should never have tried to change my nature, he thought.  Damon had it right after all.”—Stefan, The Fury

Stefan tries to suppress his evil vampire instincts, but we know that he struggles with following his own “rules” at times.  The quote above is pretty negative for Stefan. He’s usually more confident that good can conquer evil and he is definitely NOT one to side with Damon on things.

It was sucking almost all the life out of Tyler and his friends that brought Stefan to this low point. So, maybe it’s just Stefan’s guilty conscious talking.  Either way, we think his quote touches on an important issue.

Vampires are supposed to be innately evil . . . but do you think it’s possible for one to “change” their nature completely?  Or do you side with Damon and think that vampires are all “damned” no matter what?

For more on Stefan’s dark side, read The Vampire Diaries: The Fury by L.J. Smith.

The Many Faces of Elena

We’ve discussed once before how book Elena and television Elena are quite different.  Now that we think about it though, each of the novels in L.J. Smith’s TVD series seem to show us a new Elena: Queen Bee Elena (The Awakening), Devoted Girlfriend Elena (The Struggle), Vampy Elena (The Fury), and, now since we’re onto The Dark Reunion, Spirit Elena.

No matter what Elena has become, she always maintains some key qualities . . . her ability to be a loyal friend, her determination to get what she wants, and, of course, her beauty.

Elena is obviously one of our absolute favorite characters in every book, but is there a “face of Elena” in any particular TVD book that you like reading about the most?

For more on Elena’s transformation, start with The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening.

TVD Summer Read: The Awakening

L.J. Smith’s first Vampire Diaries book, The Awakening, is checked off our summer “re-reading” list. Now we’re deep into Book Two—The Struggle. It’s hard to put down L.J. Smith’s Vampire Diaries novels . . . it’s actually pretty impossible to stop reading until you’ve revisited all six volumes cover to cover.

One of the best parts of re-reading the series is experiencing the start of Stefan and Elena’s romance all over again. Remember this?

Elena gave her feral grin … she knew one thing: she wasn’t going to let Stefan Salvatore get away alive.” – The Awakening

In the beginning, Stefan tries to resist the temptation to have Elena at every turn, but as soon as Elena spots Stefan, she WANTS him. In fact, re-reading the books has us thinking that from the start, Elena was the predator and Stefan was her prey. Do you think Elena is more aggressive than her vampire boyfriend?

The stunning first season of The Vampire Diaries is over.  So, what now???  It’s going to be a long, hot summer without any new episodes!  But don’t worry . . . we’ve got a few things to keep you satisfied.

We’ll be reliving the entire first season of The Vampire Diaries, starting with the pilot episode TONIGHT at 8/7c on the CW! Still not enough to get you through the show’s hiatus?  Well, as most TVD fans already know, the series all began with L.J. Smith’s novels–and now is the perfect time to start reading, re-reading, or finish reading the whole series (it’s also the best way to get your fill of the sexy Salvatore brothers).  We plan to re-read L.J’s books from The Awakening to Shadow Souls.

Are you with us? We want to know how you’ll be getting your TVD fix this summer!

We don’t want to spoil the most amazing season finale ever before you’ve even seen it, so if you haven’t had a chance to watch “Founder’s Day” yet–first of all, what are you waiting for? And second of all, there are bound to be SPOILERS in the comments, so wait until you’ve watched to read on.

Honestly, we went into “Founder’s Day” thinking that Bonnie’s witchy lie would be the undoing of everything and everyone that we hold dear in Mystic Falls. But you can’t blame the most shocking season finale surprises on Bonnie! We’re still reeling from the way things ended for everyone from Jeremy, to Damon, to Elena–aren’t you? Tell us what shocked you the most!
