In The Return: Nightfall, Stefan writes the lines above in a letter to Elena. It sounds as if he hopes to live a mortal life … if possible. But after living for hundreds of years as a vampire, the idea of becoming human again must be hard for Stefan to imagine.
Consider the benefits of sucking human blood for all eternity: everlasting good looks, superhuman abilities and, most of all, immortality. Stefan would have to give up all of the above if he ever became a human like Elena. Do you think he would regret it?
